We have had a fantastic day today, driving from the Atlantic Ocean most of the way to the Mediterranean, across the lower slopes of the Pyrrenees. We stopped for breakfast in Pau, a beautiful old university city. It is surrounded by mountains, many snow-covered.
We then drove on the very fast freeway to another small mountain town that is the gateway to a mountain national park. Hiking up very steep rocky paths to a lake at about the height of Mt Buller, with spectacular mountains all around, greenest grass and cleanest water crashing down waterfalls. Unfortunately I do not have photos yet, but the slopes were about black diamond times 4!
After our two hour walk we drove on to Foix, where we are now.
