Corte

World Cup fever is taking hold. Every bar has a television facing outside. The atmosphere is actually fun.
Corte is a small town high in the mountains in the centre of Corsica. Streets are cobble-stoned, narrow, mostly with steps in them because they are so steep. Surrounded by steep mountains, it is a hiker's Mecca. All very old, much of it decrepit.
Bonaparte's older brother was born here, and the town has a history of political rebellion.
We have come across a few Corsicans who are a bit sullen and unhelpful. Not many, but enough to leave an impression. Corsica was sold to France a few hundred years ago, and they have understandably been a bit resentful ever since.
The photos of the gorgeous shop where David was buying some wine don't quite show the dust that has collected on every item!! But the owner knew exactly where to go for the particular bottle that David wanted.
This morning we went for a two hour hike in the mountains which was quite rocky but good. A dog greeted us at the beginning of the trail, and came with us the whole way. When we got back it opened the gate to its house and went in, greeted by its owner. Obviously does it all the time. Nice having the dog with us.
